There’s a no-nonsense attitude floating in the air which can either motivate or frustrate us during the first half of this week. The planetary transits over the next few days bring up issues of personal will versus the limits of reality.
Mars will meet up with powerful Pluto in Capricorn tonight, Monday, at 6:03 p.m. EST, and then will form a square angle with Uranus in Aries on Wednesday. In other words, Mars is traveling through the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square that’s been in effect since 2011. Mars is a very straightforward personal planet– it represents action and force, how we assert ourselves or express anger or desire. To put it simply, Mars symbolizes moving forward after what we want or need.
The outer planets (like Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto) move very slowly through the zodiac, spending decades in each sign. When they form aspects to each other, these transits are subtle and far-reaching, the type of paradigm shifts that are better understood in hindsight. They describe generational patterns that capture the essense of a period in history. We’ve been in one of these eras, known astrologically as the Uranus/Pluto square, which started roughly in 2011 and will continue on until early 2015.
The Uranus/Pluto square is revolutionary and transformative, and we’ve seen disruption and chaos erupt in different areas worldwide. Whether the Occupy Wall Street movement, the fighting in Ukraine, the repeated race riots and mass shootings in the U.S.– it has been a period of struggle within hierarchies. While it may have been known in well-informed and cyncial circles before, political deceit and corruption in business has NEVER been as transparent as it is now. No one trusts anyone.
Pluto is churning up the systematic garbage that our world has put into place. It’s slow 20+ year transit of Capricorn is forcing us to destroy what is unhealthy, and it’s a painful and scary process, and one that most people don’t acknowledge. The Republican/Democratic polarity is false, we are being distracted. Politicians aren’t fighting each other for votes, they are trying to make sure we don’t pay attention to the real issues– they are selling our health, our environment, and our minds away to big business all the time, and they’re making new laws to make sure that they can continue to do so in the future. Corporations have more rights than we do, but we’re too busy shopping for the next iPhone to notice (while the employees who make the phones in China get 2 cents per hour and live full time in the factories.)
Phew, rant over. The Uranus/Pluto square is a phase of questioning and (hopefully) restructuring the actual structure of civilization.
So, Mars is passing through this square, passing right over Pluto. This can, of course, translate into intensely driven action– we may feel pushy, needy, desperate, or even compulsive. But more importantly, this week offers up a time to work passionately at the transformation we want to be a part of. Even if this is as mundane as rearranging furniture in your home, this is a good transit to be actively working on something. This isn’t the time to escape reality, it’s the time to shape it.
